The Person and Work of Holy Spirit
1. We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement; and, that He is the Supernatural Agent in regenaration, baptising all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption(John 16:8-11: And when he is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgement: Of sin, because they believe not on me; of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; of judgement, becuase the prince of this world is judged.; See also Romans 8:9; I Corinthians 12:12-14; II Corinthians 3:6, Ephesians 1:13-14) 2. We believe that He is the Divine Teacher who assists believers to understand and appropriate the Scriptures and that it is the privelage and duty of all the saved to be filled with the Spirit.(Ephesians 1:17-18: That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation and the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.; See also Ephesians 5:18; I John 2:20, 27) 3. We believe that God is soveriegn in the bestowal of spiritual gifts to every believer. God uniquely uses evangelist, pastors, and teachers to equip believers in the assembly in order that they can do the work of the ministry. (Romans 12:3-8: For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is amoung you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think: but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; or he that exorteth, on exortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that showeth mercy, with cheerfulness.; I Corinthians 12:4-11, 28; Ephesians 4:7-12) 4. We believe that the sign gifts of the Holy Spirit, such as speaking in tongues and the gift of healing were temporary. We believe that speaking in tongues was never the common or necessary sign of the baptism or filling of the Holy Spirit and that ultimate deliverance of the body from sickness or death awaits the consummation of our salvation in the resurrection, though God frequently chooses to answer the prayers of believers for physical healing.(I Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
